history

Louis Corrigan, Atlanta based collector and patron, founded Flux Projects in 2009. Corrigan had been quietly supporting Atlanta artists and organizations for many years through his work on the board of non-profit arts organizations and his private sponsorship of specific art events. In the spring of 2009, Atlanta's arts community was suffering greatly from the recession. Corrigan recognized the need for a bold move to bolster spirits and fund artists. Flux Projects is the result of that commitment.

Flux Projects started with a small board that included Susan Bridges, Amy Miller, and Marcia Wood, in addition to Corrigan. Anne Dennington was hired as the organization's executive director. Kristen Cahill joined the group as a board member in early 2010.

Flux Projects is the only organization presenting a year-round public art program throughout Atlanta. Our goal is to bring innovative, fun, and thought-provoking projects to the places where Atlantans spend their daily lives: where they work, travel, and play. We are funding artists to do more ambitious projects and providing them greater exposure to the Atlanta community. By reaching outside of traditional venues, we hope to broaden the audience for the arts in Atlanta and bring a greater awareness of the richness and diversity of our city's creative culture.

In addition to presenting individual projects throughout the year, Flux Projects will also present a one-night public art celebration called FLUX, centered this year in the Castleberry Hill Art District. Plans are to grow this into an all night, city-wide event.

Flux Projects' first event was Bloom, a performance by gloATL in Lenox Square mall over Valentine's weekend. This was followed by, Mike's Drive, an installation by Brett Osborn and Michael Brown, also in Lenox, February 15-28; and Memory Flash, a series four installations and performances by collective John Q in Midtown on April 3. Additional projects will be presented starting late summer, and FLUX will take place on Friday, October 1.
