SUMMARY:Conversation with the Artists: Bouke Bruins and Wouter Corvers
DESCRIPTION:Dutch designers Bouke Bruins and Wouter Corvers will be on site at their project Railtalk-Re-Connect in the West End MARTA Station to discuss the project and answer your questions. \nThis project and event are presented in collaboration with MARTA Artbound and the Atlanta Design Festival. \nAbout Railtalk-Re-Connect\nAfter a time where keeping distance and being careful of human contact has been the new norm\, we can finally move around more freely and connect with each other again. Railtalk-Re-Connect invites you to use magnetic letters to play and connect with your fellow MARTA travelers. Leave a positive message\, write a loving word or simply read along. \nFrom May to October 2022\, thousands of magnetic letters will be found at seven different MARTA stations. Designers Bouke Bruins and Wouter Corvers\, “We strive to promote as much interaction as possible between all layers of society\, the more diverse the better.”

SUMMARY:Meet the Artist: Rachel Parish
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, October 2\, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM\, artist Rachel Parish will be on site to greet audience members and answer questions at Georgia Plaza Park\, one of four downtown locations for her work Emergence. \nWith this work\, Parish will present a series of temporary\, interconnected monuments to the four spring heads that lie directly beneath Downtown Atlanta and feed the region’s vital\, life-sustaining rivers and creeks. By illuminating the “birthplaces” of Atlanta’s waterways\, Emergence will offer the public the opportunity to collectively consider the power of the natural ecology upon which Atlanta has been built and the continued presence of the life-springs that support the land upon which the city’s residents live their lives. The project will feature sound installations\, performances\, and projections. \nThis event is presented in association with Atlanta Art Week. \nEmergence is presented in conjunction with the City of Atlanta’s annual ELEVATE festival and supported in part by the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs. \nPhoto: Julie Yarbrough Photography

SUMMARY:Here Song Walk with Cannupa Hanska Luger
DESCRIPTION:A collaboration with the Carlos Museum\, Emory University \nFlux Projects has been working with Cannupa Hanska Luger and Ginger Dunnill to create Here Song\, a mobile app that allows users to trace the landscape and create tonal resonances—sonic stories that engage directly with the land.  The app was inspired by the tradition of Luger’s ancestors\, the people of the Northern Plains Tribes of North America\, to study horizon lines to create melody and other types of sonic experiences. This practice\, known as “singing the horizon\,” connected them to place and reinforced their relationship to the land. \nJoin Cannupa Hanska Luger and master naturalist and nature photographer Kathryn Kolb for a guided walk through Atlanta’s Cascade Springs Nature Preserve\, one of the largest areas of old-growth forest in the city.  The park lies on Cascade Road\, which follows the ancient Native American Sandtown Trail that stretched from Stone Mountain to the Creek village of Sandtown on the Chattahoochee and into Alabama. \nDownload the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store to create a sonic story of your experience of the land during the walk. \nMeet at the Kilgo Circle entrance to the Carlos Museum at 1pm to board a private bus to the Cascade Springs Nature Preserve. \nSpace is limited and registration is required by clicking HERE.

DESCRIPTION:In advance of FIELD by BANDALOOP\, Flux Projects presents a public conversation with director Melecio Estrella to discuss the artistry and themes of the performance\, and what connects this work to Atlanta. Join us to hear about how this work was developed and what audiences can expect! \nMORE INFO: \nThis fall (October 1- 3) Flux Projects is excited to present the world premiere of FIELD by BANDALOOP. SUMMARY:Flux Exchange: Architectural Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:WITH ALEXANDRE ARRECHEA AND MICHAEL KAHN\nJoin Flux Exchange visiting artist Alexandre Arrechea and ArtATL’s architectural contributor Michael Kahn for a walking tour of Downtown Atlanta. \nArrechea has been incorporating imagery of architecture in his sculpture and drawings for over two decades\, both as a solo artist and in the Cuban artist collective Los Carpinteros. Kahn\, an architect\, lecturer\, journalist\, and native of Atlanta\, writes and lectures on the confluence of urban planning and architectural history. \nTogether\, the two will discuss the complex past\, present\, and future of Atlanta’s architecture\, as represented in buildings both preserved and lost\, and discuss how these intersections can inspire concepts in contemporary art and culture. \nTour highlights include: the Atlanta Central Library\, the Hurt Building\, the Candler Building\, the Ellis Hotel\, the Healey Building\, the Flatiron Building\, the Olympia Building\, the Marriott Marquis\, and the Equitable Building. Tour begins and ends at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta\, 265 Peachtree Street NE. (Group will meet at the main Peachtree St. entrance.) \nThis program is free and open to the public. \nsee more from #fluxexchange on instagram
