DESCRIPTION:by Hormuz Minina \nThe chasm @ Fourth Ward Offices\, Tower 2 \nPromontory XV is a site-specific\, public art performance by multimedia artist Hormuz Minina to take place in a hidden chasm off the BeltLine’s Eastside Trail\, adjacent to the parking deck of the Fourth Ward Offices. The live performance will explore the intersection between nature and urban development. \nCrowned by a majestic oak tree\, the enormous ravine and its retaining wall will be the dramatic backdrop to a live performance incorporating large-scale projections\, an immersive soundscape featuring American soprano Jasmine Habersham\, and durational choreography designed to highlight the liminal space between the BeltLine’s development and the surrounding nature that remains. Other featured musical artists include Turkish-American sound artist and pianist Ipek Eginli\, trumpeter and 4th Ward AfroKlezmer Orchestra founder Roger Ruzow\, classical violinist Brijené Wilson\, and experimental sound designer Stan Woodard. \nPromontory XV is also a dialogue with Minina’s memorable 2010 durational performance at the same site prior to the BeltLine’s development. After digging a hole\, Minina painted himself in gold and embedded himself among the tree’s roots\, remaining there overnight. In an exploration of ritual\, nature\, and the boundaries of physical and psychological endurance\, Minina adopted the role of protector\, provocateur\, and advocate for creative humanism. Miraculously\, the oak tree still stands today\, serving as the inspiration for the upcoming performance. \nPresenting a creative vision for the future of Atlanta\, this event is produced by Benita Carr\, with the collaboration of Flux Projects\, Eyedrum Art and Music Gallery\, and New City Properties. \nmore info \nAbout the Artist \nHormuz Minina is a multimedia performance artist known for his durational\, site-specific works that blend improvisation with physical and mental endurance. Born in Mumbai\, Minina studied electrical engineering at Georgia Tech and participated in activities at WREK 91.1FM and the local experimental art\, film\, and music scenes. These experiences led to his involvement in the arts community as board chair of Eyedrum and as a supporter of cutting-edge art. \nHis performances are influenced by his experience as an immigrant and as a member of the Zoroastrian religious community\, represented symbolically as a winged spirit.  His work explores themes of spirituality\, alienation\, and environmental loss. \nAbout Benita Carr\, producer \nBenita Carr is a producer\, artist\, and former university arts educator dedicated to innovative storytelling and production methods. Her work subverts cultural norms exploring themes around domesticity and the family\, identity\, sexuality\, and the female body. She is known for producing site-specific photography and multimedia video installations in off-beat locations including a former slaughterhouse\, a 48’ shipping container and a 100-foot water tower located in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward. \nCarr’s work has been exhibited in galleries and museums\, and public art forums around the country including the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington\, DC and is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia. She is the recipient of numerous awards and grants including the Joyce Elaine Grant Award\, Texas Women’s University\, Artist in Communities Initiative Grant\, Fulton County Arts Council and Finalist\, Emerging Artist Award\, Ansel Adams Center for Photography\, San Francisco.

DESCRIPTION:A one-hour solo performance both scripted and improvised\, goo is an offering to you: an attempt to engage with family archives hilariously plays out as Yun Lee fails to connect to the contents of a book written by their grandmother Yeon-Ok Kim. goo channels tangential affective and linguistic impulses that spiral out of oral histories\, incomplete memories\, sensations both felt\, imagined\, and made up. It brings out the vulnerable side of family history of migration\, separation\, and alienation. There’s plenty of longing\, feeling of loss\, explosion of anger\, reaching through incomprehension. There’s love\, excavated in the process of making the work\, the kind that permeates three generations despite the trauma and forgetting— \nYun Lee (she/they) is a performer and choreographer from Seoul. Since training and dancing with Trust Dance Theatre\, Lee has been making performances that interweave fragments of family history\, cultural heritage\, and archival text\, processing and reimagining the material with feeling bodies through a postcolonial\, queer\, feminist lens. Lee’s work in dance\, physical theater\, and video led them to work with Young-Cool Park and Jang Sumi upon graduating from Yonsei University with a degree in Comparative Literature. In 2023\, Lee received a scholarship to participate in danceWEB in the frame of ImpulsTanz Festival. Since then\, they have relocated to the US as an MFA candidate and teaching fellow at Smith College. In 2025\, they will present work at Movement Research at Judson Church\, School of Contemporary Dance and Thought in Northampton\, and What’s a Dancework in Seoul.

DESCRIPTION:Braiding Time\, Memory and Water is a collaboration between choreographer Sue Schroeder\, conceptual artist Jonathon Keats\, and composer Felipe Pérez Santiago.  Responding to the geography\, history\, and environmental concerns of rivers\, the inaugural performance will take place on Powers Island\, one of the most serene sections of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.  Performances by dancers and musicians will be prompted by the river’s natural flow\, enlisting the river as a participant. Audience members will be invited to join by playing instruments made from natural materials. The project seeks to reconnect us to nature and to encourage us to find solutions to safeguard and nurture our environment. \nPerformances will take place on Sat. DESCRIPTION:Atlanta to the Atlantic returns to Atlanta for installations in three City of Atlanta Parks through which tributaries of the South River flow.  The first will open in Perkerson Park on Saturday\, September 21. \nMeet the Artists 10am to noon\nComments at 10:30am \nmap + direction to parking \nSound Bath Meditation with Ebony Black \nThe event will include a sound bath meditation led by Ebony Black. This immersive outdoor sound bath meditation will guide participants to connect deeply with the powerful presence of water. As healing sounds wash over them\, they will feel the rhythm of nature mirroring the flow of rivers\, lakes\, and oceans. The journey invites participants to connect with the water within and the sounds of flowing water in the park\, bridging their connection to the waters that flow throughout Georgia. The natural environment and sound will bring participants into a deeper harmony with this vital element. \nAbout Ebony Black\nEbony Black is a certified sound healing practitioner\, behavioral health specialist\, and holds a background in marriage and family therapy. As the founder of The Feelings Garden Wellness\, Ebony blends her expertise in mental health\, mindfulness meditation\, holistic living\, journaling\, and sound healing to guide individuals on their journey to vibrant health\, inner harmony and actionable steps towards change. She encourages the daily practice of the “power of pause\,” a mindful moment to notice and connect with your emotions through the lens of grace. With a focus on personalized nourishing support\, she empowers clients to awaken their fullest potential and embrace holistic well-being. \nMore about Atlanta to the Atlantic can be found on the project page. \nACCESSIBILITY \nPerkerson Park has varying terrain\, including some slopes and exposed tree roots.  We recommend accessing this event as follows: \n\nFrom the parking lot designated in the link above\, rather than take the ramp across the bridge to the pavilions\, follow the worn path behind the restrooms along the other side of the creek.  After a short incline at the beginning\, the area is flat\, with short grass and dirt but without roots.\nAt the project site\, there is another short incline\, this time dirt and with some roots\, but they do not cover the entire area.\n\nOur gatherings will be at this site\, which seems to be the favorite spot for park-goers to enjoy the creek. \nThe alternate path from the parking lot\, which takes you beside the pavilions\, leads to the top of the project and has a beautiful view looking downstream.  There is a bridge with steps over the creek from this location to the one referenced above. \nPlease contact us with questions at info@fluxprojects.org or (404) 245-5853.

DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, October 2\, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM\, artist Rachel Parish will be on site to greet audience members and answer questions at Georgia Plaza Park\, one of four downtown locations for her work Emergence. \nWith this work\, Parish will present a series of temporary\, interconnected monuments to the four spring heads that lie directly beneath Downtown Atlanta and feed the region’s vital\, life-sustaining rivers and creeks. By illuminating the “birthplaces” of Atlanta’s waterways\, Emergence will offer the public the opportunity to collectively consider the power of the natural ecology upon which Atlanta has been built and the continued presence of the life-springs that support the land upon which the city’s residents live their lives. SUMMARY:36.5 / A Durational Performance with the Sea
DESCRIPTION:Livestream of the culminating performance in New York City\, September 14\, 2022\nPublic Viewing Location in Atlanta: Plaza at Underground Atlanta \n36.5 / A Durational Performance with the Sea (2013 – present) is a series of nine site-specific performances and video art works that take place in bodies of water around the world. Artist Sarah Cameron Sunde stands in a tidal area for a full cycle (usually 12-13 hours) as water engulfs her body and then reveals it again.  The public is invited to participate by joining Sarah in the water and by marking the passing hours from the shore; the local community is involved in all aspects of creating the work. \nThe performance on September 14 will be the culminating work for the 36.5 series.  A large-scale global event\, hundreds of people will stand in the water in NYC while re-enactments happen in all previous locations around the world.  Designed to engage people in conversations around sea-level rise\, the project began in Maine 2013 as a response to Hurricane Sandy’s impact on New York City.  The hope is that each individual that encounters 36.5 will consider their contemporary relationship to water\, as individuals\, in community\, and as a civilization. \nMore information: https://www.36pt5.org/ \nThis livestream event will introduce Sarah as the next artist in our Flux Exchange\, an incubator series that invites artists to explore the city of Atlanta as a site for a future large-scale public project. \nDirections + Parking \nPeachtree Fountains Plaza is located at Underground  across from the 5 Points MARTA station and bordered by Wall St\, Pryor St\, Peachtree St\, and “Upper Alabama.”  It is under the Peach Drop tower\, for those who know the New Year’s Eve tradition.  In addition to MARTA\, we recommend biking or rideshare. Street parking and parking lots are located in the immediate vicinity on the surrounding streets. \nAbout Sarah Cameron Sunde  \nA New York-based interdisciplinary artist and director\, Sarah Cameron Sunde works with performance\, video\, and public art.  She was recently awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship to complete her ongoing series of works\, 36.5/A Durational Performance with the Sea (2013 – present\, nine works on six continents).  In 2017\, Sunde instigated and co-founded Works on Water\, an artist-driven experimental organization dedicated to art that is made on/in/with bodies of water. \nHer work has been seen and experienced at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art\, 3LD Art & Technology Center\, the Knockdown Center\, EFA Project Space\, Little Island\, Rattlestick\, Kennedy Center\, Guthrie Theater and presented internationally in Norway\, the Netherlands\, Bangladesh\, Brazil\, Mexico\, China\, Uganda\, and Iraqi Kurdistan. DESCRIPTION:Bana Haffar performs with Otherpole as part of Turbulence. \nA lifelong expatriate\, Bana Haffar was born in Saudi Arabia in 1987 and spent much of her childhood in the GCC.
