“Connecting the Dots: The Heidelberg Project and the Power of Art” exterior exhibition will feature Tyree Guyton, creator of the renowned 30-year-old Heidelberg Project of Detroit. The mission of this outdoor art environment, which transforms rundown areas on Detroit’s east side into vibrant urban neighborhoods where creativity thrives, is to inspire people to appreciate and use artistic expression to enrich their lives and improve the social and economic health of their greater community.

About the Artist

Tyree Guyton is the creator of the renowned 30-year-old Heidelberg Project of Detroit. The mission of this outdoor art environment, which results in the transformation of rundown areas on Detroit’s eastside into vibrant urban neighborhoods where creativity thrives, is to inspire people to appreciate and use artistic expression to enrich their lives and to improve the social and economic health of their greater community.

“Heidelberg Television was created during the fires of 2013–2014 when someone, intending to wreak havoc, maliciously dumped a large broken television on Heidelberg Street (Heidelberg Project). After three days of contemplation, it came to me to transform this act into something positive,’ explains Guyton.

‘Heidelberg Television has become the neighborhood entertainment place for children in the Heidelberg Project community. They now have a REAL reality show where the name of the game is to make it up! The smiles and joy on the children faces who participate and help to create Heidelberg Television, puts a smile in my heart and lets me know that I have awakened their imaginations.”
