On Saturday, June 19, in commemoration of Juneteenth, Flux Projects will present Charmaine Minniefield’s Remembrance as Resistance: Preserving Black Narratives in its entirety. Honoring recently discovered unmarked graves in the African American Burial Grounds of Atlanta’s Historic Oakland Cemetery, Remembrance as Resistance was intended to be an in-person event last year. Postponed for the pandemic, it was released as a series of virtual programs and events. Flux Projects announces Here Song, an interactive music project by Cannupa Hanska Luger and Ginger Dunnill that will allow users to scan the natural landscapes around them to generate a unique sound composition based on movements in the land.  The project is made possible by Fulton County Arts & Culture's new Virtual Arts Initiative. The practice of studying horizon lines to create sonic experience and melody is a technology developed by Luger’s ancestors, the people of the Northern Plains tribes of North America. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, public art organization Flux Projects recently launched its Virtual Arts Series, featuring works by Atlanta-based artists from a variety of disciplines and created especially for the virtual realm. Known for accessible, temporary public art projects, Flux Projects worked with local artists to commission and exhibit digital art with the realization that currently, shared public space is the virtual realm. Beginning Friday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m., Core Dance, Decatur’s 40-year-old professional dance company, will project Flux Projects’ Virtual Art Series onto their studio windows, welcoming all passers-by to experience this virtual exhibition. Over the next six weeks, public art organization Flux Projects will present three virtual projects by contemporary artist William Downs, curated by Floyd Hall. As part of its ongoing Virtual Art Series, Flux Projects will share three digital ink wash drawing animations by Downs, released two weeks apart, on Wednesday, July 15; Wednesday, July 29; and Wednesday, August 12. The projects are free and will premiere on Flux Projects social media (Instagram + Facebook) in addition to FluxProjects.org. Flux Projects is honored to receive continued funding from Fulton County Department of Arts & Culture through it Contracts for Services (CFS) for our 2020 year of programs. The Fulton County Arts Council was established in 1979 by the Fulton County Board of Commissioners to ensure all citizens' access to the arts. They accomplish this through support and development of artists, arts organizations, arts institutions, and cultural programming for residents. Since 2012, FCAC has been one of the most steadfast supporters of Flux Projects's work.
