Bringing moments of happiness to daily life

Small Moments of Happiness is a new series designed to integrate brief but meaningful encounters with art into daily life in Atlanta.  Projects will take place along the Peachtree Street corridor (anchored from 14th Street to 16th Street) in summer and fall 2026, activating public spaces with temporary installations and performances.  These works will interrupt familiar routines and create shared moments of happiness among friends, neighbors, and strangers.  We hope they spark curiosity, create space for reflection, and invite us to experience the city and one another with fresh eyes.

Projects include:

Monkeys From a Barrel by Sam Lassister: Rooted in Pop Art, large-scale monkeys playfully suspended from trees will transform a popular game into a shared experience that recalls the sensations and emotions of childhood.

Flock of Birds by Dorothy O’Connor: Inspired by the collective movement of bird murmurations, over one hundred handcrafted blue birds will appear to have taken flight from the trees.

All That Is Solid Melts Into Air by Robert Ladislas Derr: Four benches made of ice will slowly melt in the summer heat as Robert Ladislas Derr moves among them, inviting passersby into conversations about change, uncertainty, and the passing of time.

Good Fortune by Katie DiGiovanna: Colorful felt fortune cookies containing simple acts of kindness will invite strangers to share small gestures of generosity, turning chance encounters into opportunities for spreading joy.

Small drawings by Sanithna Phansavanh: Casual conversations become the inspiration for hand-drawn illustrations turning shared stories into personal sketches and small gifts.

Music Performance by Tiffany Goode + DJ Mettaspin: Trumpeter Tiffany Goode partners with DJ Mettaspin for a musical set that blends genres and decades, combining jazz, hip hop, soul, house, rock, and dance classics.

Life Interrupted… by Susan Huang: Inspired by the story of Sadako Sasaki, hundreds of colorful origami cranes suspended outdoors will offer a quiet interruption to the pace of daily life and a space for reflection and hope.

Portal by Neka King: Appearing unexpectedly along Peachtree Street, Neka King’s mobile micro-stage will unfold into a temporary gathering space for artist talks, performances, and neighborhood stories.

Public Reading Party by Rachel Parish: Inspired by the simple pleasure of reading alongside strangers, Rachel Parish will transform Peachtree Street into an open-air reading room where visitors are invited to slow down, pick up a book, and share in the quiet experience of reading together.

Plus, a few surprises along the way!
