Teleportal is a multi-medium, interactive piece designed to resemble and behave like retro telephone booths. Visitors are invited to interact with Teleportal booths by answering phone calls, and listening in on conversations between the artist and employees of retailers in Ponce City Market. As an Atlanta native and employee of a store in Ponce City Market, Tucker uses her unique perspective to amplify the voices and humanize the daily experiences of its workers in a truly authentic way.

About the Artist

Talecia Tucker is an interdisciplinary artist and designer who lives and works in Atlanta, Georgia. Her photography explores the social and cultural nuances of identity in America. Informed by historical references, composition, textiles and cultural influences, her work provides insight into experiences that are usually private. It engages themes of familiarity, cultural identity, class, gender, and race and encapsulates fleeting moments of intimacy through portraiture. In 2016 she earned her B.A. in fashion design and merchandising from Clark Atlanta University. She has exhibited work at Wish Gallery, Facet Gallery, and MOCA GA, and was a 2018–2019 WonderRoot Hughley Fellow.
